School Nurse (Healthcare)
General Responsibilities
This is an exciting position that allows the nurse to utilize hands-on clinical skills and be supported/expected to educate their patients, school employees and families on acute/chronic conditions, injury/illness prevention, and healthy lifestyles. The nurse in this position works independently with minimal supervision while providing general school nursing and health promotion services to students and staff at Mackinaw Trail Middle School. The nurse works under standing-orders from the medical director. In addition to basic clinical services the nurse provides education in and out of the classroom to improve the health status of youth and the school community. The nurse provides communicable disease response and prevention support to schools and their families. These duties include case investigation, testing, vaccinations, and outbreak and mitigation support to schools. They collaborate and consult with multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams to achieve desirable outcomes to prevent and reduce outbreaks of communicable disease such as influenza, RSV, COVID-19, and other common illnesses.
The school nurse will work full-time (Monday through Friday) for 42 weeks per year during the school year, but will be off for 10 weeks in the summer.
