Organizational Summary:
The Mechanical Engineering department has approximately 282 undergraduates and 76 graduate students. The Mechanical Engineering department has 15 tenured and tenure-track faculty members. The annual research expenditure of the department based on external funding was over $2.7 million in 2008-2009.
Position Summary:
Work, lead, and support academic activities related to the planning, recruitment, marketing and assessment functions of the undergraduate and graduate programs offered by Mechanical Engineering. The person will work individually and as part of a team in aspects such as programmatic developments, assessments, marketing, course scheduling and revision, inventory and organization of space allocation, and support to faculty and students of the department.
Responsibilities:
Supervise: The person in this position must supervise, train and evaluate the Academic Program Specialist that reports to the position. Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate FWSP/ hourly student(s).
Accreditation Matters: As part of the department's ABET and SACS accreditation activities, the person in this position performs in-depth analysis of student performance on the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam and prepares a bi-annual report of student performance. The person in this position makes recommendations to the Chairman of noted curricular deficiencies.
Work and support tasks related to ME's ABET and SACS accreditation processes, such as design and implement surveys, gather, organize, and analyze data, prepare reports, and organize and conduct assessment activities with various constituencies, i.e. employers, alumni, faculty, and the community at large.
This can include, but is not limited to, the design and implementation of Alumni and Employers surveys, gather, organize, interpret, and analyze data, prepare the Alumni and employer Survey reports.
Schedule Graduate Assistants: Evaluate the qualifications of graduate student(s) in the TA pool and based on the input from the Graduate Coordinator assign them to appropriate positions based on their qualifications. Coordinates the semester course schedule for graduate, undergraduate and distance learning courses.
Coordinate the recruitment and credentialing of adjunct faculty. The Department uses a number of adjunct faculty to teach undergraduate and graduate courses. It also uses practitioners along with faculty members in the Department's capstone design courses.
New Course and Program Revision Activities: Coordinates the submission and development process for new course offerings, new programs, and programs revision.
Serve as liaison with other academic offices and departments regarding ME academic programs, representing the department in cross-functional teams. Serve as the Departmental Attendance and Leave Coordinator.
Responsible for departmental FAIR reporting and for
inventory and organization of space allocations within the department.
As needed, organize departmental and committee meetings, disseminate minutes from meetings and schedule and/or manage the Departmental Chair's appointments.
Program Marketing: Develop, implement, and disseminate strategies and materials to recruit and retain undergraduate and graduate students and to promote the ME department. This includes the preparation and dissemination of promotional and recruiting brochures, annual reports, departmental newsletters, and other electronic materials (e.g., CDs about programmatic efforts).
Distributes brochures, reports, and newsletters to alumni and local industry. This distribution may require visits in personal vehicle to companies, agencies, or educational institutions.
Minimum Qualifications:
This position requires a Master's degree in education or a field of study related to the academic program, or a Bachelor's degree in those same fields with a minimum of two years of experience.
FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree preferred.
