A Day in the Life
Team is working hybrid and work onsite about 3 days/week in Carlsbad, CA.
The Ventilation Service and Solutions group of Medtronic strives to enable earlier diagnosis, better treatment, faster complication-free recovery, enhanced patient outcomes through less invasive surgical solutions, and impact patient outcomes.
Ventilation Service and Solutions (VSS), focuses on expanding global access to our therapies that improve clinical outcomes for patients with respiratory compromise.
A System Test Engineer will be a member of the engineering team working in support of respiratory products. System Test Engineers are expected to work individually and with other members of the engineering staff to provide technical expertise and solutions to engineering problems.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
• Work with other groups to identify opportunities for product development.
• Define and develop use cases for products based on environment of clinical use.
• Evaluate performance of products based on industry practices and studies.
• Develop and verify specifications for breath delivery parameters in different modes of operation.
• Define test methods and acceptance criteria to be used to assess product performance, under simulated patient conditions, for critical care ventilators.
• Provide clinical relevance for parameters identified.
• Develop tests setup and equipment required to execute test cases.
• Create test protocols and test reports to document testing conducted and results achieved.
• Work with cross-functional disciplines (Clinical, Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, and Software) to develop, implement, and verify system solutions for a life support ventilators.
• Evaluate product performance on an on-going basis and identify required changes and evaluates these changes to the design to improve and optimize performance.
• Work with management and engineering teams to establish best practices.
• Function well in a team environment.
• Generate high-quality work products.
• Leads and participates in activities, such as performing risk analysis, reviews of designs and tests, etc.
• Leads and supports software, hardware, and systems level verification and validation testing.
• Provide support on existing sustaining products.
• May work on process improvement activities.
Must have:
• Bachelor's degree plus 2+ years of relevant experience
Nice to have:
• BSEE/ME/CS/BME
• Strong knowledge and experience with C/C++.
• Experience in embedded, real-time applications required.
• Experience in hardware/software interfacing and design issues required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
• Strong analytical skills
• Familiar with systems engineering processes, in particular top-down design using system requirements.
• Experience or significant interest in medical systems or the interaction between devices and the human physiology.
• Able to work in a cross functional team environment.
• Experience worked with complex electro-mechanical systems.
• Medical product development experience

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$80,800.00 - $121,200.00
This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
