HEARST COMMUNICATIONS, INC.
Deputy Features Editor, Enthusiast & Wellness Group (Creative Design)
Your Impact
Hearst Enthusiast Group (Runner's World, Bicycling, Popular Mechanics, Biography.com and Best Products) is looking for a Deputy Features Editor to identify and execute feature stories that support the group's print, Apple News+, loyalty, and membership goals and make an impact within and beyond our endemic communities.
The Deputy Features Editor will combine the craft of storytelling with sound journalism principles to pitch, assign, and edit—or occasionally write—stories that range from deeply reported narratives to fast-turn features to thoroughly informative packages across all platforms of the Enthusiast brands, with a primary focus on Popular Mechanics. The editor will mentor and top edit junior staff and help elevate the quality of storytelling throughout the group.
The ideal candidate is a prolific idea generator with experience developing features for editorial publications, the ability to think broadly and critically, a track record of publishing impactful long-form science journalism, and a proven ability to provide meaningful feedback and mentoring to writers and editors. This role will report to the Executive Features Director.
